Jan 31, 2011 · Very nice car with one exception! Driving slowly over a speed bump I get a really loud clunk from the right rear corner. Happens when the tire clears the bump and decends on the far side. It does not happen when only the left rear wheel encounters the bump and does happen when the right rear wheel encounters the bump. Feb 13, 2015 · Poorly greased or bad half shaft joints will clunk at slow speeds and in a turn. Put your Vette on jacks, grab the top and bottom of the rear wheels at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions and give them a good shaking to see if there is movement. If there is movement that you can see, your bearings are bad. These are sealed units and cannot be re-built. As the suspension and the sway bar go through their motions the link rotates and twists. On cars that get lowered suspensions or track use the ball joints in the link get a real workout. If you hear clunking from the rear suspension, especially over bumps and potholes, the rear links should be evaluated.
